Ah, one month old! Can’t believe it! Today after his doctor appointment we had a fun little photo shoot. Even with getting a shot, he was luckily awake and in a good mood for mom! I knew I wanted to take monthly photos of his first year to record his growth and so I thought it would also be fun to include tidbits about his accomplishments and personality. And a la my monthly bump shots I had to include a mini chalkboard as well. 🙂
Here are the stats from the doc today:
Weight: 9 lbs, 2 oz – 25th percentile (up from 7 lbs, 13 oz at 2wks)
Length: 21.5″ – 50th percentile (same as 1 wk)
Head: 15″ – 75th percentile (up from 13.75″ at 1wk)
Now the length measurement is a little wonky in my opinion. He was born at supposedly 20″ and when we went to our one week appointment they swore he was 21.5″ and said they must have measured him wrong at birth because there was no way he grew an inch and a half in one week. But now today they said he measures again at 21.5″ but I know he has grown in length because some of his newborn onesies are starting to get too short. So who knows what’s going on! I also find it funny that his head is coming in at the 75th percentile because I feel like he has a small head and other people have made that comment too.
But overall Park had a clean bill of health and the doc doesn’t have any concerns with his progress. He also received a shot today and I really thought I would handle it fine, but no, my eyes completely got misty when I saw his little face turn beet red and scream without breathing for a couple seconds. As soon as I could pick him up I did and my sad tears turned to happy tears as he immediately stopped crying once in my arms. That made me feel much better! I told Eric he has to come with me next month though because he gets more than one shot and I don’t want to handle it alone again!
Parker is still eating exclusively breastmilk. He eats 8-9 times a day. He usually eats every 2-3hrs during the daytime and he’ll go 4-5 hours at night (yay!). A week ago I started also pumping some bottles for him to try once or twice a day since that is how he’ll be eating when I go back to work. He struggles a little bit in the beginning with a bottle, but really has transitioned well with going back and forth between breast and bottle.
He is still mainly in newborn size clothing and diapers, although just this week I found some 0-3 month size pajamas that he can wear. He needs to hurry and chunk up for mom! Especially those chicken legs!
Eric and I really can’t complain. I mean Parker has his moments like all babies, but we were lucky with a pretty calm baby who naps well during the day and goes back to sleep quick at night after eating. And most of all I’m so glad he was sick free during his first month. With a February birth I was really nervous about that, but luckily this winter has been mild. I know the streak of health won’t last forever, but am just glad I’ve been able to get motherhood a bit under my belt before dealing with that!
I use an app called “Baby Connect” where I track all feedings, diaper changes, etc and I thought it would be fun each month to also update everyone how many diapers we’ve used. Here is our count for February:
Parker, we’ve had so much fun getting to know you this first month and I hope you can say the same thing about us! Thanks for being awesome….let’s keep it going for month two!
